Welcome to this week’s Marketing for Romance Writers 52-week Blog Challenge—the 52ndweek—entitled My Wedding Disaster. Most brides have certain expectations for their perfect wedding day, and usually everything doesn’t live up to that ideal. My wedding had many things that didn’t go as planned. Those are the things that we continue to talk about all these years later.

Little Disasters

Most of those little disasters that happen at a wedding go unnoticed by everyone else except the bride. They aren’t even close to the level of a disaster, but may feel like it on that day.

Since I’ve been married for many years now, perhaps my perspective has changed. #MFRW #wedding

But I don’t think I felt it was a disaster on that day. I was stressed, as most brides are, but I don’t think I let it ruin my day.

The Best Laid Plans

Things started to go awry right from the get-go on my wedding day. I got up earlier than the rest of the house to have some quiet time to prepare. Especially since my parents’ house only had one bathroom. I’d no sooner gotten into the shower when someone started pounding on the door. So, in summary…

  • My young nephew was sick, and needed in the bathroom, so instead he vomited in the hall
  • The hairdresser got backed up so the bride (me), bridesmaids, and my Mom were all running late and half were unhappy with their hairdo
  • My Mom focused her stress on desperately wanting to make a detour to get a new lipstick—which we had no time to obtain
  • The flowers arrived but some were missing, or incomplete
  • The photographer was early and none of us were ready
  • By the time we arrived at the reception after photographs, we were already running out of some of the booze which lead to…
  • Some people had overindulged a bit too much
  • My Dad invited more people than we were aware of and we were packed in like sardines
  • The groomsmen didn’t realize their role in preparing for the bridal dance (see overindulging)
  • I didn’t get any of my favorite cookies since someone ate the plate saved for me—from the bridal table

And I’m sure there was more. That’s just what I can recall all these years later…Sounds like a disaster, huh? Not to me.

Magical Wedding Memories

wedding memories

I’ve shared stories about our wedding for years, and we all laugh at how the best laid plans go awry.

Those are the memories I have in addition to walking down the aisle, and dancing with my husband, and all the other special moments from that day. In other words, this wasn’t a disaster, but only wonderful memories.

Welcome to this week’s Marketing for Romance Writers (#MFRW) 52-week blog challenge. I’m hanging in strong for the year and even kept up with a vacation last week!

This week’s topic is My Favorite Holiday Memory. Seems easy, right? Wrong. If any of you know me at all, or have been around my blog you’d realize why this could be a challenge. (P.S. be sure to read to the bottom so you don’t miss the contest!)

What Did You Say About Back in the Day?

memoriesYou know how people say how when you get older that the old memories seem clearer while it’s more challenging to remember the more current events? Not so for me.

I’ve even went as far as to mention several times, including in a dedication in my book FORGET ME NOT (get the irony?) that my husband is like my pensieve in Harry Potter. He can remember memories that I don’t even recall happening, so I just must take his word for it. I return the favor since he can’t remember the current events so I like to say together we make one mind.

Roll the Film—or I Should Say Posts

I’ve often discussed my rather introverted nature and that I’d prefer to listen rather than talk. That is, unless you put a typewriter in front of me then I’m the long-windiest person you’ve ever met. My fingers just don’t want to shut up! I think it’s because my mind is constantly churning through mass amounts of information. Therefore, I hate repeating myself.

So, if you’re still hanging around because you want to hear about some of my favorite memories, then stop by some of these posts where I’ve discussed them before.

A Casserole of Memories

As you can see, memories are a popular post, so most must have a better memory than I do. That’s not to say that I don’t have memories.

I have many wonderful #memories but they tend to blur and blend together to one big beautiful casserole of happiness.#MFRW

I’ll talk about a memory and then ask, “Was that last year or the year before?” It doesn’t make a difference that I can’t remember which year, or if two memories were on the same holiday or I’ve combined different years, what matters is that I have these memories.

And if I don’t, then I’ll ask my pensieve, or I’ll pull out some pictures, or someday I’ll get those camcorder videos transferred onto something I can watch.

Memorable Memories

Long ago I realized my inability to concentrate long enough to decipher one memory from another, hence the challenge of

having twins. I knew my horrific handwriting and terrible memory would fail them when they grew up and asked about antics of one or the other.

That was one reason I started to blog years ago, to save those precious stories that I’d never get written their baby book (or no one would be able to read it.)

I’ve pulled most of those posts down (but here’s one), since teenagers aren’t keen on having their baby stories shared, and I hope to one day make them into a book.

Whether I’ll only share it with them, or the world, remains to be seen. The good thing is that then I won’t forget those memories.

Welcome to this week’s Marketing for Romance Writer’s 52-week Blog Challenge where the topic is My Most Memorable Experience. If you know me, or have been around the blog for a while, you’ll know that I’m not always that great at remembering the past. I rely on my husband for that. So much that I included his role in my memory in the dedication in my book FORGET ME NOT.

Usually the present and future is always on my mind—except for completing this post today, which I almost forgot after posting each week for a year and a half. But I have written many blog posts about special memories, and I’ll share some of those with you today. Because we both know, it’s unlikely that I’ll remember more than this.

I’ve written posts about my first story, childhood memories and family. I’ve also written many blog posts of cherished, humorous memories of the twins when they were younger. Because raising twins means you have to have a sense of humor. I’ve included one of them below (I’ve Been Hacked).

Welcome to this week’s Marketing for Romance Writers (MFRW) 52-week blog challenge. The #MFRW graphic reminds me that this week’s topic is An Unforgettable Day In My Life. You would think this topic would be easy, right? Nope. Not if you’re someone like me who has been desperately wishing to find a magic pensieve like the one used to review memories in Harry Potter.

Where Did the Day Go?

There are a lot of unforgettable moments that I can recall, and that’s how I recall them—as moments. Unlike many who claim that their old memories remain strong as they get older and that the current becomes more muddied, I’m the opposite. My old memories flash through my mind in a jumble, giving credence to the saying of one’s life flashing before their eyes.

Scruff looking for memories
Scuff is looking deep in his mind to uncover his unforgettable memories.

My desperation to cling the fleeting moments of time often consumes me, and I try every time management method. Except these efforts seem to have an adverse effect on my memories. You see, when I’m able to fit more and more into a day, then the little moments tend to blend together in my overloaded thoughts. The day passes in a blur, and when I try to discover how the hours escaped me they slip through my fingers like fog.

A Colauge of Memories

If I could patch all the vivid wisps of memory together, then perhaps I could create one glorious, unforgettable day.

  • A collection of childhood memories that have yet to fade in the recesses my crowded mind—holidays, first and last days of school, family
  • The day I met and married my husband—the twist of fate meeting, the craziness of the wedding day
  • Getting my MSN—my awe in the accomplishment
  • The emotions swirling around with the discovery that we were having twins and their birth—the shock, the anticipation, and the fear
  • Selling my first story—the unexpected surprise and the flooding happiness

When Ordinary Becomes Extraordinary

There are a few unforgettable bad moments seared in my mind as well, but I prefer not to dwell on them. Especially if I’m making a memory-colauge, then I’d rather have a pleasant one.

RWA 2015 memoryPlus there are a few distinct moments that stand out from an ordinary day in the past that don’t seem to merit the space they occupy. But the glimpse into a simple sight, task or conversation of my past makes the ordinary seem all that more extraordinary. Like the antique you come across that is suddenly much more amazing and fabulous that it was in it’s time. The regret of not having the opportunity, or taking the time, to give it the love and appreciation it deserves.
