If I Never Had to Do This Again I’d Be Happy, But Hungry

Welcome to this week’s Marketing for Romance Writer’s (#MFRW) 52-week Blog Challenge with the topic, “If I Never Had to do This One Task Again…” Perhaps you’ve been hanging around each week. So then you’ve probably heard me lament that when I read each prompt I ponder it awhile. Or that I’m not quite sure what to write about. Well, not this time.

The moment I received the listing of topics for this year’s weekly blog challenge and my eyes landed on this topic I knew exactly what I would write about. And if you know me personally, you probably wish I didn’t have to do this task anymore either because you’re tired of hearing me complain about it.

Grocery Shopping

I couldn’t even think of a cute heading for this task to give you a smile to start the paragraph. That’s how much I despise this task. I’ve been trapped in the laundry room for years on an endless cycle. I clean unsavory things all the time. But I’d much rather do Unsavory tasksthose tasks than grocery shop.

Why you ask? Oh, now you’ve done it. Wait a moment while I step up on my soapbox.

If you want to get right to the root of my issue (which I’m sure you do, ain’t nobody got time to pop in for a bunch of complain in’), it’s the time invested in this task.

I’ve ruminated more than once about my fixation on time and time management. Because I’m that person who just wants you to get to the point, who has a never-ending to-do list and probably has never complained of boredom. (Okay, Mom, perhaps as a child. Maybe.)

Sure, some of my endless tasks may be self-imposed, but that’s the way I’d rather spend my time than:

  • Cutting coupons
  • Making a list
  • Reviewing the coupons
  • Driving to the store
  • Picking out the same stuff you bought last week
  • Putting it in the cart
  • Setting it on the grocery belt
  • Having a stroke when the total price rings up
  • Packing it in the bags—the car—out of the car—putting it away—ack! Make it stop!

Then you’re finally done with that fresh hell and—

Then your child tells you something they need at the store even though you asked them what they needed before you went #MFRW unsavory #tasks Click To Tweet

.…You get the point.

Born Too Late

I know what you’re going to tell me. Times are a changing. I can’t tell you how excited I am about the prospect of delivered groceries. It’s in my future, but I haven’t tried it yet. That is, unless the hubs would want to permanently take over the

shopping at that point. This is a great concept, but there’s still one even better that I’d love to see. That’s getting magic involved in the task.

So when you take something out of the cupboard it’s magically replaced. You would always have the exact ingredients you’re looking for and no one gets in trouble for leaving one cookie in the pack. Ahh…that would be the best.

The other thing I’m hoping comes to fruition in my lifetime is having my own self-driving car. Everyone would have one. I’ve been talking about this for years and years but alas, I’m no inventor, so I had to wait until they started to create them.

Quitting the Day Job
  1. Yes! I hate it as well. The Hubs does most of it these days, but sadly he never factors in stuff we need for real meals! He’s great at snacks and quick things when we’re on the go which is often with 3 boys in 3 different activities. So even though he picks up things, does the Costco runs, I still have to go if I want to actually cook a real meal for the family. 🙁

    1. He doesn’t want to let you completely off the hook, Meka, lol. Thanks for visiting!

  2. I’d probably be okay with groceries delivered right to my door, but not with someone coming into my house to put things away while I’m gone. Or even when I’m there. I’d love to try grocery pickup, but so far haven’t been able to get ahead of the game far enough to plan the order in advance.

    1. Sherry, I wouldn’t want them in the house either- just deliver them to the door 🙂
