When You Make a Casserole of Magical Holiday Memories

Welcome to this week’s Marketing for Romance Writers (#MFRW) 52-week blog challenge. I’m hanging in strong for the year and even kept up with a vacation last week!

This week’s topic is My Favorite Holiday Memory. Seems easy, right? Wrong. If any of you know me at all, or have been around my blog you’d realize why this could be a challenge. (P.S. be sure to read to the bottom so you don’t miss the contest!)

What Did You Say About Back in the Day?

memoriesYou know how people say how when you get older that the old memories seem clearer while it’s more challenging to remember the more current events? Not so for me.

I’ve even went as far as to mention several times, including in a dedication in my book FORGET ME NOT (get the irony?) that my husband is like my pensieve in Harry Potter. He can remember memories that I don’t even recall happening, so I just must take his word for it. I return the favor since he can’t remember the current events so I like to say together we make one mind.

Roll the Film—or I Should Say Posts

I’ve often discussed my rather introverted nature and that I’d prefer to listen rather than talk. That is, unless you put a typewriter in front of me then I’m the long-windiest person you’ve ever met. My fingers just don’t want to shut up! I think it’s because my mind is constantly churning through mass amounts of information. Therefore, I hate repeating myself.

So, if you’re still hanging around because you want to hear about some of my favorite memories, then stop by some of these posts where I’ve discussed them before.

A Casserole of Memories

As you can see, memories are a popular post, so most must have a better memory than I do. That’s not to say that I don’t have memories.

I have many wonderful #memories but they tend to blur and blend together to one big beautiful casserole of happiness.#MFRW Click To Tweet

I’ll talk about a memory and then ask, “Was that last year or the year before?” It doesn’t make a difference that I can’t remember which year, or if two memories were on the same holiday or I’ve combined different years, what matters is that I have these memories.

And if I don’t, then I’ll ask my pensieve, or I’ll pull out some pictures, or someday I’ll get those camcorder videos transferred onto something I can watch.

Memorable Memories

Long ago I realized my inability to concentrate long enough to decipher one memory from another, hence the challenge of

having twins. I knew my horrific handwriting and terrible memory would fail them when they grew up and asked about antics of one or the other.

That was one reason I started to blog years ago, to save those precious stories that I’d never get written their baby book (or no one would be able to read it.)

I’ve pulled most of those posts down (but here’s one), since teenagers aren’t keen on having their baby stories shared, and I hope to one day make them into a book.

Whether I’ll only share it with them, or the world, remains to be seen. The good thing is that then I won’t forget those memories.
